Differently Today, Maybe…

26 Aug

Well, there you go again you are right now doing something you have done yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that, and before that day, and before that day, and that day etc…. Yes you, me, him, her, and all of us, we all have developed certain routines of life that we perform each and every single day.

That is not a bad thing because it works. In fact, it works so well that we don’t even think about such routines any more. Why do we do them? Where do we do them? or when do we do them? Yet, that is the key statement, we don’t think any more along the process of performing such repetitive tasks. Maybe, just like a tea pot that let’s of the build up of steam through that whistling sound, this is our brains natural way of releasing some of the pressure it accumulates while dealing with life. Such routine acts that end up involving no thought are maybe the 15-minute breaks our minds need to continue a healthy performance. After all imagine a computer that runs continuously and never shuts off. Other than the threat of eventual break down, comes the threat of over heating, slow performance, loss of memory, freezing etc…. Maybe our brains do so in order to be ready to perform miracles when it’s faced with what really matters.

However, the true danger lies in the possibility that our brains create such KITKAT breaks, saves it’s powers for the important tasks of life, only to never have such tasks to tackle. Now that is a true waste of a brain.

Escalating the threat level to one of those more pungent colors, red or violet or whatever, we are faced with an even more sinister truth. The ugly truth we are faced with is that we use these comfortable thoughtless acts of routine as our main way of living rather than just ways to relax our brains from dealing with a true and meaningful life. Routine has become our life. Want to see this in play? Call any customer service rep over the phone and try to solve a problem, if it’s not written in his script, he or she would not know how to deal with it. Have you ever felt that you have made contact with ET while on a call to your utility company? Have you ever applied for a job and been told that you need experience even though you are trying to do exactly that? Or have you ever had a boss that sits in the office right next door to you, and ask him or her a question only for him to be asked to send an email instead of just telling you when is the next staff meeting.

You know what… may be I have been mistaken all along, and I have just wasted your time reading this. Maybe our brains, as the calculating machines they are, were bound to eventually develop such pre- programmed protocols to follow naturally, just as computers do. Maybe it was never about our brains. Maybe it is about having a soul that complements the existence of our routine seeking brains that really makes us humans that might just wake up one day and say:” you know what…. I know this works, it does everyday, but I feel like doing things differently today “… Maybe.
